Blepharoplasty: Enhancing and Rejuvenating the Eye Area
Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is an aesthetic procedure that aims to correct excess skin, fat, and laxity around the eyes. It is one of the most sought-after plastic surgeries, as it provides a more rested, youthful, and harmonious look, improving both the appearance and, in some cases, the function of the eyelids.
Indications for Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty is indicated for:
•Excess skin on the upper eyelid: This can cause a tired appearance or, in severe cases, impair vision.
•Fat pockets in the lower eyelids: These give the eyes a puffy or aged look.
•Lower eyelid laxity: Resulting in wrinkles and excessive folds.
•Desire for rejuvenation: Improves facial harmony, bringing a more youthful and rested look.
How Is the Surgery Performed?
Blepharoplasty is a relatively simple procedure, usually performed under local anesthesia with sedation or, in specific cases, under general anesthesia. It takes 1 to 2 hours, depending on whether the procedure involves only the upper eyelids, the lower eyelids, or both.
1.Upper Eyelids:
•The excess skin and, if necessary, the underlying fat are removed.
•The remaining skin is sutured, resulting in a discreet scar in the natural crease of the eyelid.
2.Lower Eyelids:
•The procedure may involve removing or repositioning fat pockets, in addition to correcting skin laxity.
•The incision is made just below the lash line or, in some cases, on the inner side of the eyelid (transconjunctival technique), which avoids visible scars.
•In our technique, in addition to this standard treatment, we add a suspension flap for the lower eyelid and the contour of the malar region, which helps rejuvenate the face.
Techniques and Incisions
1.Upper Blepharoplasty:
•Incision in the natural crease of the upper eyelid, allowing skin and fat to be removed with almost imperceptible scars.
2.Lower Blepharoplasty:
•Incision along the line just below the lashes, which provides access to the fat pockets and the lax skin.
•Alternatively, in patients with good skin tone, the transconjunctival technique (internal incision) can be used to treat only the fat pockets, with no external scars.
The surgeon chooses the technique best suited to the case, prioritizing natural results and discreet scars.
Advantages of Blepharoplasty
1.Immediate Rejuvenation:
•Provides a more youthful and rested look, correcting signs of aging.
2.Improved Self-Esteem:
•A revitalized look has a positive impact on overall appearance and personal confidence.
3.Quick Recovery:
•Blepharoplasty has a relatively smooth postoperative period, allowing a return to daily activities within a few days.
4.Long-Lasting Results:
•Although the natural aging process continues, the results of the surgery are long-lasting, often for years.
Recovery and Postoperative Care
•Recovery Time: Swelling and bruising are common in the first few days, but they usually disappear within 7 to 14 days. Most patients return to normal activities after 1 to 2 weeks.
•Care:
•Use of cold compresses to reduce swelling.
•Use of eye drops in the first few days
•Avoid direct sun exposure until healing is complete.
•Strictly follow the surgeon’s instructions.
