Abdominoplasty: Redefining the Body Contour
Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is a surgery that removes excess abdominal skin and fat, in addition to correcting laxity of the abdominal muscles, resulting in a firmer, more toned abdomen.
Abdominoplasty is one of the most sought-after surgeries for those who want to restore the harmony of the torso, going far beyond aesthetics by restoring the functional integrity of the abdominal wall. With more than 15 years of practice and thousands of procedures performed, our approach focuses on delivering elegant results that respect each patient’s natural proportions, eliminating excess skin and correcting muscle laxity.
This surgery is especially indicated for patients who have skin laxity and localized fat in the infraumbilical region, often after pregnancies or major weight loss. In addition to the skin component, the main indication involves correcting diastasis (separation) of the rectus abdominis muscles, which causes that “bloated belly” look that does not improve with physical exercise alone.
What Our Abdominoplasty Technique Is Like: Naturalness and Definition
Many patients are apprehensive about abdominoplasty because of artificial results they have seen in other cases. However, with more than 15 years of experience and thousands of surgeries performed, Dr. Marco Longo has refined a technique that prioritizes elegance and naturalness.
Our approach is based on four fundamental pillars:
1. Navel Reconstruction (Omphaloplasty)
The navel is often what gives away a plastic surgery. In our technique, we use the patient’s own tissue to reconstruct a small, deep, natural-looking navel, so that it is hard to tell there was a surgical intervention.
2. Hidden, Low Scar
We plan the incision so that the final scar sits in a strategically low position, allowing it to be completely hidden under underwear or low-cut bikinis.
3. Muscle Plication (Internal Corset)
We suture the rectus abdominis muscles in a way that is individualized for each patient. This “internal corset” not only corrects diastasis, but also restores tone to the abdominal wall and helps sculpt a more defined waist.
4. Combination with MD Lipo and Muscle Grafting
For a superior result, we always combine abdominoplasty with MD Lipo (Medium-Definition Liposuction). This technique enhances the natural curves and the abdominal muscles in a sophisticated way. When necessary, we also use muscle grafts, such as the RAFT technique, to enhance definition.
The result of this combination of surgical tactics is a high degree of satisfaction, delivering a beautiful, firm and, above all, natural abdomen.
Dr Marco Longo explains the abdominoplasty technique that he developed and refined over these more than 15 years of experience in plastic surgery:
RECOVERY:
The recovery process is closely monitored by a multidisciplinary team, starting while still in the hospital with respiratory and circulatory physiotherapy. In the first week, support is intensive, with weekly follow-up visits in the first month and 24-hour medical availability to ensure complete safety. The treatment plan extends for one year to monitor complete healing, although our care for our patient is permanent.
After 3-5 days, the patient can return to working from home
After 10-12 days, cleared for in-person office work (no physical exertion)
After 20 days – cleared to drive and for light daily activities
After 60 days – weight training, Pilates and stretching allowed
