Breast Reduction: Transformation and Well-Being
Breast reduction, also known as reduction mammaplasty, is a cosmetic and functional procedure that aims to reduce the volume of the breasts and reposition them. This technique is ideal for women who experience physical or emotional discomfort due to excessively large breasts, such as back, shoulder and neck pain, difficulty doing physical activities, or dissatisfaction with their appearance.
Indications for Breast Reduction
Breast reduction is indicated for:
•Women with large breasts or breasts out of proportion to their body.
•Cases of physical discomfort, such as back, shoulder or neck pain.
•Difficulty with physical activities due to the weight or volume of the breasts.
•Skin problems, such as rashes or infections in the breast fold area.
•A desire to improve self-esteem and body harmony.
What Is the Surgery Like?
Breast reduction is performed under general anesthesia and can last 2 to 4 hours, depending on the complexity of the case. During surgery:
1.Removal of the Excess:
•The surgeon removes excess breast tissue, fat and skin, reducing the volume of the breasts.
2.Repositioning of the Areola:
•The areola is moved to a more harmonious position, preserving its blood supply and sensitivity.
3.Shaping of the Breasts:
•The breast is reshaped into a more proportional and firm contour, providing symmetry and a natural appearance.

Techniques and Incisions
The choice of technique depends on the volume to be reduced and the degree of sagging present. The main incisions used are:
1.Lollipop Incision (Vertical):
•Indicated for moderate cases, with a scar around the areola and a vertical line down to the breast fold.
2.Inverted T Incision (Anchor):
•Used in more complex cases involving significant reduction. The scar includes the area around the areola, a vertical line and another along the inframammary fold.
3.Periareolar Incision:
•Used for small reductions or correction of asymmetries. The scar is limited to the area around the areola.
The surgeon chooses the technique that best meets the needs of each patient, prioritizing the balance between aesthetic results and discreet scars.
Advantages of Breast Reduction
1.Relief from Physical Discomfort:
•Reduces pain and improves posture, allowing greater freedom of movement.
2.Natural and Proportional Appearance:
•Provides more harmonious and symmetrical breasts, in line with the body contour.
3.Ease in Everyday Life:
•Makes it easier to choose clothes, play sports and carry out daily activities.
4.Improved Self-Esteem:
•Restores confidence and emotional well-being.
Recovery and Results
Recovery involves specific care, such as wearing a surgical bra, avoiding physical exertion in the first weeks and strictly following the surgeon’s instructions.
This recovery is gradual and progresses week by week, with the patient returning to daily activities between 14 and 20 days.
Physical activity (weight training) for the legs after 15-20 days and for the arms after 45-60 days.
Results begin to be noticed soon after the procedure, but the final shape of the breasts is reached once the swelling goes down, usually in 3 to 6 months.
With breast reduction, you can achieve not only a more proportional appearance, but also more comfort and quality of life. Consult a specialized plastic surgeon and find out how this surgery can transform your life!
